Burketown Aerodrome closed
The Burketown Aerodrome is closed until October 2026 while reconstruction of flood damage is underway. This is a major investment in improving flood immunity, resilience, and long-term reliability of our airport.

All Rex flights will now operate in and out of Doomadgee Airport. Council is coordinating passenger transfers between Burketown and Doomadgee. Information for passengers is below.
Rex Airlines
All Rex Passengers services will operate in and out of Doomadgee Airport during the airfield closure. Please book online at REX or call 13 17 13 for all flights. Council is coordinating passenger transfers between Burketown and Doomadgee.
How to book your transfer
- Once your flights are booked, please contact Council (07 4745 5100, Monday to Friday, 9am to 4pm) to book your transport between Burketown and Doomadgee.
- You will need to provide your Rex booking confirmation number along with passenger details and flight dates and times.
- You should be notified once your flight is booked with Rex and must occur at least one working day before your scheduled departure.
- As an interim mode of transport, Savannah Aviation will provide a charter service until the road to Doomadgee opens. These transfers align with flight schedules.

Transfer from Doomadgee to Burketown
- On arrival at Doomadgee, the Savannah Aviation pilot will be in the waiting area inside the terminal.
- Collect your luggage and follow their instructions to catch your charter flight.
Burketown Aerodrome

The Burketown Aerodrome is owned and operated by Burke Shire Council. It primarily caters for Emergency Services, Rex Operations, light aircraft and helicopters.
Security Pedestrian Gate
- A Security Pedestrian Gate has been installed. The Security Gate will prevent unauthorised access and is fully supported by the Aviation Transport Security Office.
- The Pedestrian Gate is controlled by a pin code system.
- To gain access 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, aircraft owners and operators will need to phone Burke Shire Council during office hours on (07) 4745 5100 to gain the gate pin code.
Fuel Facilities & Refuelling
- AvGas Fuel is available.
- Cardlock available and/or call Nowland Engineering for further information - phone: (07) 4745 5107
- Refuelling is not to take place during regular public transport operations and the fuelling apron is to be made and kept clear if requested.
- Council's Aerodrome Officer directions must be followed at all times.
