The festive season is approaching fast, and the Burke Shire Council is inviting everyone to help illuminate our towns for the annual Christmas Lights Competition. This beloved community tradition brings a wonderful holiday spirit to the region, giving residents and local businesses the perfect opportunity to show off their creative flair and spread some seasonal cheer.
There are four distinct categories open for entry this year, ensuring that everyone across the shire can participate regardless of their setup:
Burketown Residential for local households in town looking to transform their front yards into festive wonderlands.
Gregory Residential, which warmly includes surrounding stations to ensure our rural neighbours can share in the fun.
Solar Lights, a category dedicated specifically to residential solar powered setups for those creating sustainable displays.
Business, covering commercial properties across both Gregory and Burketown that want to bring extra holiday magic to their storefronts.
Prizes will be awarded to the top three entries in each category, so gather your strings of lights, set up your glowing displays, and get ready to impress the judges.
Taking part in the competition is quick and simple. You can register your entry today by calling 0448 052 302 or by sending an email with your details to community.developement@burke.qld.gov.au
Official judging will take place between December 7th and December 11th, 2026. For entries in the station categories, please remember that you will need to submit clear photos of your night time display to be included in the judging process.
Start planning your setups now, and let us work together to make Burke Shire shine brighter than ever this December.
