Waste Collection

Burke Shire Council offers a weekly kerbside collection service for those residents located with the towns of both Burketown and Gregory. The collection occurs on Thursday for Gregory and Friday for Burketown. If you require a new wheelie bin, click on the attached form. Wheelie Bin Request Form

Bulk rubbish collections are held as needed usually around the wet season.

 

Landfills

The Burke Shire Landfill is situated off the Wills Developmental Road 2kms west of Burketown (past the Airport). It is open 7 days per week.

The landfill accepts most waste streams.  Residents are advised that following waste streams are not accepted at the landfill being

  • Asbestos
  • Commercial Liquid waste
  • Construction and Demolition waste

Containers for Change

Residents and tourists are encouraged to deposit drink containers in the appropriate bins as part of the state wide Containers for Change Program.  These are located at the following businesses

  • Murray’s Café (Gregory)
  • Burketown Pub
  • Morning Glory Café (Burketown)
  • Savannah Lodge (Burketown)

Containers for Change wheelie bins are provided at Special events during the year

 

Burke Shire Waste Reduction and Recycling Plan

In 2022 Burke Shire Council approved the Waste Reduction and Recycling Plan which outlines the strategy and key actions that Council will be undertaking in the coming years to improve waste management in the Shire. The link to the WRRP is provided here.
