If you are a pet owner, you are responsible for your pets’ actions. If your animal is deemed to be breaching any of the items listed within Council’s Local Laws or Animal Management penalties will apply as referenced. Please note that each penalty unit listed is worth $161.30. If your animal is impounded the following fees will also apply as per the Burke Shire Council Fees and Charges Schedule
It is important that pet owners take the necessary precautions to ensure their dog is not found to be creating a nuisance, endangering other animals or people, damaging property, or roaming outside of their property.
If you are a dog owner, you should:
- Ensure your dog is appropriately contained in your yard and it cannot escape – 90 percent of dog attacks are committed by wandering dogs.
- If out in public, please ensure that your dog is kept on a leash.
- Always supervise children around dogs – particularly if a dog is sleeping, feeding or recovering from injury or illness
- Ensure your dog is registered with Council – it is against the Council’s Local Law to keep unregistered dogs.
